Date: 09-Dec-2013 Venue: lower PMG, Bhubaneswar The cyclonic storm “Phailin”, within a single night the farmers have not only lost their permanent houses, assets, livestock but also agriculture has been fully damaged, which a values a lot for them. The cyclonic storm hit 99 blocks, 1895 Gram Panchayats, 14514 villages, 39 urban local bodies and 123 wards across the State. Since then, Phailin left a trail of destruction damaging over 2.34 lacs houses and affecting nearly 90 lacs people. Over 5 lacs hectares of standing crops have been destroyed by the gushing waters causing an estimated loss of Rs.2400 Crores.
